Sora Kake Dora Index Witches-chan-ke

Posted by meronpan on March 18, 2009

Mmmm trying to figure out what to shoot next, not to mention my free time feels even more scarce than ever.  Until that comes to fruition, let’s talk anime ^^ (don’t worry, should be spoiler free)

sorakake01

First off, 宇宙をかける少女 (sora wo kakeru shoujo, sora kake girl)!

As with most series, started out knowing practically nothing… got interested in the series after seeing the promo clip @ wonhobby 9 & noticing figures popping up already.  Guess the figures aren’t so surprising when you see the show’s sponsor list…

sorakake02

^^;  There’s also some other ad placements you’ll probably notice…

sorakake04

Personally I think it’s great.  Go GSC! ^_^

獅子堂 秋葉 (shishidou akiha) is, as far as I can tell, the main character, who you meet soon after the first episode starts.

sorakake05

At first I thought the voice sounded familiar (moshikashite, hirano aya?!)… but after checking some sites… turns out it’s MAKO?  Guess I might’ve been able to recognize her from School Rumble (ichijou karen) but nope ^^;

You also meet レオパルド (reoparudo, Leopard), an eccentric robot thing voiced by Lelouch Lamperouge err Fukuyama Jyun ^^;  Unfortunately I can’t separate the voice from Lulu so it warps my perception of the Leopard character ^^;

Looks like these so called QT-arms (Quantum Technology Advanced Reinforced Maneuvering Shroud), centaur themed ship/mechs will play a decent role in the show…

sorakake06

Then there’s that weird pistol thing that I haven’t understood at all yet…

sorakake07

All in all, so far it’s got a good set of things to keep me interested.

  • Weird hilarious computer/robot thing
  • Transforming mechs
  • tsuntsun character (one of akiha’s sisters)
  • main character that seems well poised for a rise to power (of some sort ^^;)

Didn’t blow my socks off, but I’m eagerly watching to see where it’s all going ^^

Also trying to figure out why itsuki’s eyes are so weird…

sorakake03

Is that supposed to be future makeup or something?  To me it just looks like she stayed up all night ^^;;

movin on…

とらドラ! (toradora!)

I think I’ve been enjoying it a lot ^^  Think I’m basically caught up now at episode 23?  Keeping up with my no spoiler promise, all I’ll say is that ami-chan is the most level headed character… something I didn’t expect at all.

toradora01

Kitamura’s character got a lotta attention for a bit, but alas it seems like lately he’s reverted to a secondary plot device (and occasional slap stick gag ^^;)

toradora02

Really like the characters so it’s been a real treat… can’t wait to see how the show wraps up!

とある魔術の禁書目録 (to aru majyutsu no index)

Ok, I admit, the main reason I made it a priority to catch up on this series was to see what the hell this was about…

index01

…that was a weird episode ^^;  (15, if you’re wondering)

Biribiri, index, kaorin, aisa (mami-chan! ^^), misaka, last order, kuroko…. gaaa, it’s a pleasure whenever any of them is on the screen, so I’m glad I got caught up on this one too.

index02

Been enough action for me, would have no problems if they just turned the show into a galge at this point :P

ストライクウィッチーズ (Strike Witches)

strikewitches01

Mio’s voice seems kinda forced… When she’s doing her manly commander voice it just sounds like bad voice acting to me ^^;;;  Other than that… this show is insane.  It seems like it should be in that super fan-service category of shows like sekirei or such, but on the other hand it’s already had some touching moments in the first couple episodes.

strikewitches02

Hahaha err no not the above.  Since I’m only throught the first two episodes, I haven’t gotten to see much of the other girls yet, still trying to figure out the pantsu thing.

strikewitches03

I hear Francesca is the loliest of the group? ^^;;;

Feels very similar to sky girls, except i think the Sonic Divers were much cooler.  The Striker Units make the girls look rediculous ^^;;

I thought I heard that the plot was surprisingly good for a show whose premise seemed to be fan service.  Luckily I fully approve of all fan service based shows, so regardless I think we have a winner :P

strikewitches04

strikewitches05

みなみけ おかえり (minamike okaeri)

If I remember this was getting a lotta flak like season 2?

minamiokaeri01

I will say the art/animation kinda sucks in a lotta scenes but honestly, that’s not at all why I’m watching.  Basically I’m just looking for the comics with voices added, so I’ve been enjoying this season a lot ^^

minamiokaeri02

My big problem with season 2 was that I couldn’t get into the fuyuki character.  Every scene with him was just ruined for me ‘cuz I was so bored/annoyed.  With him out of the way in season 3, it’s just pure goodness straight from the comics.  I figure, if I want the nice art, I’ll just grab a volume off my shelf.

minamiokaeri03

hosaka and the other minami family… (natsuki cracks me up in particular)… they’ve been getting enough screen time to keep me happy and satisfied through 9 episodes so far.

minamiokaeri04

Lastly,

涼宮ハルヒちゃんの憂鬱 (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan)

A perfect show for any watch list because each episode is less than 5 minutes long ^^;

haruhichan01

From what I can tell, a very faithful transition from manga to anime ^^  They even chose a lot of my favorite comics (some of which I translated earlier) as the subject matter for the episodes ^^

haruhichan02

Highly recommended to anyone who enjoyed the slice of (weird) life aspect of haruhi ^^

haruhichan03

So that’s what I’ve been watchin’… you?

Unfortunately when I’m done with this I still have the following on my list…

  • ef – tale of melodies
  • itazura na kiss
  • kanokon
  • nabari no ou
  • penguin musume heart
  • rosario + vampire (2nd season)
  • true tears
  • zero no tsukaima (3rd season)
  • jigoku shoujo (3rd season)
  • ikkitousen (dd & gg)
  • candy boy
  • asu no yoichi
  • kyouran kazoku nikki
  • kurogane no linebarrels
  • shikabane hime
  • yozakura quartet
  • mahou tsukai ni taisetsu na koto
  • ga-rei zero
  • kurokami
  • macademi wasshoi!
  • minamike okaeri
  • tetsuwan birdy decode 2

… … … wish me luck ^^;

    I have enjoyed Sora Kake Girl so far. Personally feel the anime is one of the better ones along with Rideback this season, which is very good.

    Toradora is an anime that sure got better with each episode. I started late on it but is playing fast catch-up now.

    All I can say about To Aru Majutsu no Index is that it is a disappointment, for me at least. Am trying hard to persuade myself to finish the series, what with only a few episodes left.

    And Pantsu Witches FTW! ^^”

    Will try to catch Haruhi-chan. Me also have a long list of animes I wanna watch … but I am happy with it. Fighto! ^^

      rideback… gads i haven’t even heard of that one! guess it goes to show i don’t keep up on the cutting edge of anime ;_;

      now that you mention it i’ve enjoyed the to aru characters a lot, but not sure about the show overall… perhaps it’s because i’ve been watching it off and on, but it seems like it’s just this string of discreet events more so than the unfolding of a single story… that and lately index seems to be nothing more than a biting machine for some cheap laughs ^^;; i need to start on the novels to see how it was originally intended…

      sky lolis and pantsu witches… ah, what an age we live in ^_^;

    ^^ you watched all the animes which I haven’t watch except Haruhi-chan and Index. ^^

    While I watched Rosario, Kanokon, Zero no tsukaima.

    Haha..I have lots to finish up too. Wish me luck too!!

    Sorakake is FOR THE LULZ. AWARD-WINNING LULZY ANIME SERIES OF WINTER 2009.

    Suzumiya Haruhi-chan is very enjoyable. I can watch it more than 10 times per episode.

    Pretty much long list to watch, just like mine. Except i’m waaaay further back even further than yours. I haven’t even finished Hayate no Gotoku yet >.< .

    • meronpan said

      hahah i’ve also already rewatched lotsa of the haruhi-chan stuff ^^

      luckily i’m not following hayate yet… super series like that are just too long for me at the moment ^^;;

    Ah im glad to see another Ami fan here! ^_^
    At first i thought that shes gonna be another one of those bratty Antagonists School Animes usually have.I really like her development so far and shes taking the top spot for me atm.

    HAHA yeah that Index Episode was pretty WTF indeed^^
    I enjoyed the Bad Guys damn i already forgot his name Arc after that one aswell.

    Hmmm…Minami-ke Okaeri…Definately better than Season 2 but still worlds behind 1.I dont really care about the Animation quality but i prefered the overall flow and humor of the first season more

    Ahh Strike Witches….I enjoyed the Show after i got over the whole beeing pantsless thing.Sure the Story isnt sophisticated and its a total FS show but i liked it.Guess what? ME,the loli hater, liked Lucchini and Erika the most :D

    Youve got quite a list there :D Good Luck ^^

    • meronpan said

      ami~ ^^ if i had a choice i think i’d root for ami, harem, then taiga endings in that order ^^

      you referring to the 2 episodes of accelerator & last order? i enjoyed those a lot, mostly because last order was uber kawaii~ ^^ “misaki wa misaki wa~” ^__^ i actually didn’t get annoyed by her insane chattering ^^;

      yeah season 1 definitely nailed everything, it’s too bad they haven’t achieved that in the last two. nevertheless, as mentioned, s3 has a solid spot in my watch list ^^

      i was surprised how quickly i adapted to the marumie pantsu. shows how jaded i am to fan service ^^;; recently a friend was visiting and sekirei was playing in the background while we were chatting… he was like, ‘omg wtf!’ with all the fan service… took a moment before it clicked in my brain… ‘oh yeah, i guess it’s not normal for babes to rip each other’s clothes off during battle, huh?’ ^^;;

      hahah funny you gravitated toward lucchini and erika ^^ gah, can’t wait ’til i have some time to keep watchin!

      • Blowfish said

        Id even favor an ending where Ryuji turns gay and rides with Kitamura into the sunset but please no Taiga ending :3

        Yes! Accelerator!Couldnt remember his name…Didnt think of her as annoying aswell.Just a pretty inexperienced clone ^^

        Dont get me wrong Minami-ke has a solid spot in my watchlist aswell but i wish it would get back to its glory days with more Hosaka and Haruka-oneesama.
        This Episodes Chilibath was ingenious :D

        I usually dont have a problem with Fanservicey shows like Seikirei or Ikki Tousen with exploding blazers and skirts but Strike Witches with its we dont even try to make up a lame excuse for the FS approach was definately something

        “Normal” people probably would be shocked at stuff where we dont even twitch ^^

        • meronpan said

          awww no taiga love? :P given kitamura’s xmas party costume the gay ryuuji ending might not be that out of the question hahaha

          in the wiki entry i thought i saw something about them needing to have direct contact with the strike unit equipment but that still doesn’t explain why they just couldn’t wear shorts… or the average anime school girl uniform skirt would probably be short enough too ^^;;

    Does it make me a pedo when I think that Devil Chiaki is hot? O_o”

    Minami-ke Okawari seems to be the Windows Vista of the anime world. Almost everyone hates it with passion. While I think that Minami-ke’s first season is still by far the best I don’t think the other two seasons are as bad as many make them out to be.

    So far I enjoyed watching Minami-ke Okaeri, I’d like to watch more Hosaka-scenes though. :D

    Strike Witches was one of my favourite anime in 2008. Sure it’s trash, but epic trash! I can’t wait for the second season.

    In my opinion Toradora! is the best series currently airing. I hope they won’t mess up its ending.

    Ga-Rei Zero was a great show as well. Have fun “working off” your list

    • meronpan said

      hahah nah, i’ve decided that devil chiaki’s older :P loved that chapter in the manga and was wondering what was keeping them from animating it. glad they finally got around to it.

      i think if you enjoyed the manga, s3 should be pretty satisfying (unless the animation quality really bugs you that much). as you say, s2 and 3 got a pretty bad rap but in the end i watched all of s2 and definitely plan to get through 3. guess people might be missing out, but on the other hand i kinda envy people that can narrow down their watch list like that… i like almost everything so my queue is out of control orz

      definitely wish i started strike witches earlier but for some reason i felt like i had to watch sky girls first and when that didn’t blow my socks off i wasn’t that pressured to start strike witches ^^;; guess if i had been reading more anime blogs i mighta got the message…

      i also hope toradora ends satisfactorily… otherwise i’m gonna be forced to read all the light novels in the hopes that things turn out differently ^^;;

      guess i really do have my work cut out for me ^^; luckily it’s nothin’ but things to look forward to ^_^

  7. A couple are on my list like Toradora!, Miname-ke Okaeri, and To aru Majutsu no Index. I love Toradora!, but I liked it more when it was all fun and full of laughs, not that I don’t get any laughs now, I just got more from the earlier episodes.

    Miname-ke Okaeri…umm…nothing much to say about this because I’m ready to whip out season one when okaeri ends to remind me why I loved Chiaki-sama. Not that I don’t enjoy it, I just think they’re stretching it too far without any content like the first season, not to mention some repetitive scenes from season one. Most of Okaeri takes place in their home now…it seems like they don’t even go to school anymore. And lastly…they need to revert Mako-chan back to a guy, but at least they cut his air-time ^^

    I loved sky girls, Eika-san FTW! Not sure about strike witches but might give it a try if I run out of things to watch…still got…hmm….14 animes on the backlog ^^;

    • meronpan said

      i like shows that get into the heavy drama but on the other hand those aren’t the shows i like playing in the background while i’m working on stuff ^^;; so i would also welcome a more lighthearted version ^^

      i guess i have have a different perspective on okaeri since it’s pretty much straight from the comics, which i love. however, given the things that are annoying you, i can see why you vastly prefer season 1.

      eika was a little too serious for me but the only character i felt i could like without turning lolicon ^^;;

  8. Persocom said

    that’s quite a list you have there, I’ve been slacking on my anime watching lately, I think I have about 10 I’m currently watching or so, but most of them are ongoing. I’d say 2 or 3 older ones and a handful of stuff I’m interested in that I haven’t seen yet.

    • meronpan said

      it’s tough staying current… now i know why hardcore (anime) otaku have such a bad rep… how could you possibly have a social life while keeping up with everything ^^;;

  9. Q said

    … Your backlog of anime is rather huge o_O

    I have 7 at the moment, and 6 of them are currently airing (with Nanoha StrikerS being the only exception). Watching anymore will make me lose track of things very easily, but that’s why I use MyAnimeList. Very useful to see my progress ^^

    After hearing so much good stuff from Toradora, I think I will watch it soon after it finishes airing, most likely when I’m back home in Hong Kong :o

    • meronpan said

      i was going to start using myanimelist (or a similar site, can’t remember what i signed up for ^^;) but got too lazy trying to input everything orz guess i should try again…

      if you like highschool romantic comedies, can’t really go wrong with toradora ^^ (well, also assuming you take a liking for the characters :P)
